About 2 Saturdays ago Marcus Sr wanted to take me out for a dinner and a movie. Pretty nice, huh? One problem: Marcus Jr. Yes, Marcus Jr, I know, awww he's so cute, but not at the movies! He doesn't even sit quietly during the animated movies that I vowed never to take him to again until he learns how to drive, so him going with us was completely out of the question. We ended up with Marcus Jr anyway, because we could not find anyone to babysit him-everyone had plans; go figure. So we decided to buy a much need barbeque grill....
We went to Wal-Mart and grabbed a cheap $30 grill. Yes $30, but hey, look at our old grill, do you really think I would let Marcus Sr invest in a more expensive one?! After Wal-Mart we went to our favorite grocery store, Publix. If you haven't been to Publix you should definitely go, they have the best meats and service, not neccessarily the best price, but the service is worth an extra buck or two. We went to buy their bacon and cheddar burger patties. You have to try them, you won't regret it. Seriously, go try them and post a comment to let me know what you think of them. While we were there we started eyeing the seafood and decided to grab some crab legs and grill them as well. The meat representative gave us a sample of artificial crab made from a fish that only eats crab, it wasn't very good, but he also gave us a suggestion for grilling the crab legs. He told us to rub them in Old Bay crab seasoning and sit them in a bowl of beer for an hour to lock in the taste better for grilling. The meat guy was very friendly, he did talk us to death, but I'd rather him be extremely friendly than rude. Oh, I forgot to mention what time all of this shopping was going on. Marcus had to work late and he didn't get off until almost 6pm, he works near the Wal-Mart on Hwy 29 and the Publx was on 9 mile road-we live on Hwy 98 near Blue Angel, so we didn't get home until about 7:30pm; with a grill that needed to be assembled! Marcus guranteed me that he would be burning up, I mean grilling our food no later that 8:15pm.....
At 9pm we were headed back to Wal-Mart because the grill rack did not fit properly. He did have it assembled correctly.
A garden center associate explained that the grill was assembled correctly and the fit of the rack is just akward. We decided to just exchange it for a $40 grill that was already assembled (big spender) and rolled it out to our rental car. So now it's almost 10 pm and we have an assembled grill, plus I bought two tikki tourches while we were at Wal-mart. I decided to buy some since we were going to be outside to help us against the bugs. While I was deciding which torches to buy and figure what or if anything extra would be need for them, Marcus Sr kept rushing me so we can leave. I told him that there are so many accessories around these torches and I wanted to find out if they needed anything. He told me that all we would have to do is just light them, everything we need is in the canister inside the torch. Reluctantly I left the aisle with only the torches and a head full of doubt. As I paid the cashier in the garden department, that was surprisingly still open, I asked her if I needed to buy anthing for my torches and she said exactly what Marcus said, "Nope, everything you need is in the canister, just light the top." Now many of you who own or have some knowledge of these torches know that both of them didn't have a clue what they were talking about, which Marcus learned real fast after he lit the top of the torch and the flame lasted for 2 seconds. I didn't realize that he figured out he was wrong on his own until I saw him dousing the canister and the rope part you light with LIGHTER FLUID!! We still have our house and I didn't collect any life insurance money, but I did ended up having to go to Winn Dixie to buy the oil that the canister needed to keep the tourch lit. If you shop at Winn Dixie you know I would've saved more money buying the oil from Wal-Mart, had I received correct information. I think I paid about $8 for the oil.
So now, we've got our grill assembled, our torches properly lit, and Marcus was burning our food in no time. Just kidding, I rescued most of the food before he cooked it to ashes.
Mmmm...don't those bacon cheddar burgers look tasty! Seriously, go try them! Finally, we sat down to eat around 11pm. (Mom, in case you are wondering, Marcus jr went to sleep as soon as we got back from Wal-mart and he ate his dinner in between helping his dad put together the first grill.) We didn't cook the crabs that night, we waited to have them the next day. As far as the beer recipe...ummm...maybe we didn't do it right, after all they did sit in beer way longer than an hour. The Old Bay seasoning was enough, the beer could be tasted alittle, but it wasn't that major for me to go through the whole beer process again. They did come out pretty good though. We decided to put some garlic bread on the top rack of the grill and I cooked a pot of Fettucini with Alfredo sauce -I swear I'm never gonna loose any weight!
So, after everything was said and done, I guess it would've been worth getting kicked out of the movies and going to dinner with Marcus Jr-with all the time and money we spent, but then again nothing beats those tasty cheddar burgers!
